General Notes and Morphology

This genera contains species which are dermatophytes. "Dermatophytes generally are susceptible to common disinfectants, particularly those containing cresol, iodine or chlorine. They survive for years in the inanimate environment. (B88)"

Perfect State: Nannizzia

Reproduction Sexual Spores Produces ascospores when in the non-parasitic phase.  (B88)
Conidia Two types of conidia may be produced by ascomycetes:

Macroconidia: usually produced by members of this genus. If present -  walls are usually thick with a rough surface and are spindle-, boat- or cigar-shaped. The spores are borne singly and are divided into many cells by transverse septae. (B88) (B92) (B21)

Microconidia: Relatively few of these spores are produced by species of this genus. If present, they are tear-shaped and borne singly on the hyphae. (B88)
