General Description
  • Larval pentastomes may be found in the lungs, liver or kidneys of mammals and may be seen on radiographs. (B272.1.w1)

In Hedgehogs:

  • Larval stages of the pentastome Armillifer armillatus have been reported in the hedgehog.  (B272.1.w1)
Further Information
  • The only effective treatment recorded for larval pentastomes in mammals is surgical removal.(B272.1.w1)
  • Adult Armillifer armillatus live in the lungs of snakes. (B272.1.w1)

In Hedgehogs:

  • One single Linguatula sp. nymph was recovered from the body cavity of 1/9 long-eared hedgehogs Hemiechinus auritus from Sudan (1951); also one nymph of Armillifer armillatus from the body cavity of 1/4 four-toes hedgehogs Atelerix pruneri owensi (Atelerix albiventris)(1953). (J11.43.w1)
