  • Susceptibility: each bird species tends to host its own species of feather mites (B9.6.w1).
  • Transmission of feather mites is by direct contact between hosts (J1.21.w4).

Disease / Agent has been reported in either the wild or in captivity in:

  • Mites (Freyana anserina) have been recorded on swans (B9.6.w1).
  • Wood ducks Aix sponsa in the Atlantic Flyway, of which 46% were found to be infested with mites (J1.21.w4)
