Clinical Characteristics and Pathology
Detailed Clinical and Pathological Characteristics |
||
General |
WATERFOWL | Cloacal and (in ganders) phallus inflammation, sometimes permanent damage to phallus. |
Clinical
Characteristics |
WATERFOWL | Temporary inappetance, cloacal inflammation (males and females). In males phallus inflammed and covered with foamy mucus, later mucosal ulceration, necrosis, sometimes prolapse and scarring of the mucosa or even sloughing of part of phallus. Infertility of up to 90% (B15, B32.14.21, B37.x.w1). |
Incubation |
WATERFOWL | -- |
Mortality / Morbidity |
WATERFOWL | Morbidity 20-100%, mortality, 10% of ganders (B15, B32.14.w21). |
Pathology |
WATERFOWL | Genital lesions, also fibrinous pericarditis, peritonitis, splenomegaly, focal splenic necrosis (B15). |
Human Health Considerations |
| None (B37.x.w1). |
Susceptibility / Transmission
General information on Susceptibility / Transmission |
|
| WATERFOWL | Transmission: Direct cloacal contact. Transmission through eggs has been recorded and infected goslings may become carriers (B13.46.w1, B15, B37.x.w1). |
Disease has been reported in either the wild or in captivity in: |
|
| Domestic goose (B13.46.w1, B15). | |
