The International Alliance of Oiled Wildlife Responders is an
organization composed of organizations and individuals working to
promote high standards of animal care, ethics, communication and
cooperation during, and in preparation for oiled wildlife response.

The IAOWR is an organization composed of organizations and individuals working to promote high standards of animal care, ethics, communication and cooperation during, and in preparation for oiled wildlife response.
Which activities will people see from the Alliance?
Any activity that would assist to raise the standard of care of wildlife impacted by oil spills worldwide, increase the level of professionalism and cooperation in oiled wildlife response and the integration of these activities into national and international preparedness for, and the actual response to, oil spill accidents. Activities therefore should seek for the broadest participation from oiled wildlife responders, governments and industry and any other stakeholder, and may include
- The development of minimum standards of "good practice"
- Conferences
- Publications
Which products may come out of the Alliance?
The Alliance will aim to develop practical tools which together will express what registered organisations mean with terms like "ethics", "good practice" and "professional behaviour". All tools should be clearly beneficial to the international community as a whole. These tools may include:
- The Alliance Register of Oiled Wildlife Responders (Organisations and individuals)
- Technical papers ("Standards") on different issues concerning oiled wildlife preparedness and response
- Website
- Newsletters
- Conferences
- A scientific journal
- A qualification/accreditation system for oiled wildlife responders
How will the Alliance be organised and governed?
The Alliance will be a organization dedicated to furthering the field of oiled wildlife response, providing a voice and identity for its members to the world and providing them with an internal structure for communication, cooperation and sharing of knowledge. It will be governed by a board of directors composed of individuals and organizations elected by members from the membership. Board and Advisory Group meetings will be held in conjunction with industry conferences (IOSC, SpillCom, Interspill) and Membership meetings will be held at EOW
