| MCV | - "average
(mean) volume of the red blood cells within a
sample of blood. Immature red blood cells are larger than mature red blood
cells therefore a raised MCV indicates the presence of greater than normal
numbers of immature red blood cells in the circulation; this is useful in
investigation of anaemia. Calculated as: (PCV
